I finished the Frode Wrist Warmers last night! More detailed post to follow, as I want to include more details and photos and instructions, but those will take a while (as will better pictures, because right now the best I could do would be to take a shot of one glove with the other hand, so I need another person to be able to take a shot of both at once.) For now, a crappy shot taken with Photo Booth, complete with terrible lighting!

Now I only have one official WIP: Cherie Amour. I’m a little afraid of it, can’t lie, because patterns confuse the heck out of me and this one might not have been the best choice for my first sweater (cables are my friends, lace isn’t.) But I’m out of excuses now — no other WIPs! This one needs to get finished, so I can start on what I really want to make — Celtic Icon. I hope 8 skeins of Cascade 220 will be enough for that, because I do NOT want to have to buy that much yarn again just to match dye lots, or have another catastrophe a la the Frode sweater (where I had three different dye lots and had to frog the whole thing…)

…don’t cast off and weave in the ends of a fingerless glove which you have not yet tried on.

I thought that I’d gotten it right, based off of my calculations. I’d counted five or six times the number of rows in the cable chart, compared it to the original, THOUGHT I’d have enough, got to the point I wanted to stop (the end of the pattern repeat), cast off in pattern, cut off the tail of yarn and started weaving in the end. THEN I put it on, and of course OF COURSE it’s too short and I’ll have to frog back to the end of the pattern repeat. I, clearly, am an idiot.

So, about that. What I’m working on I’m just calling Frode Wrist Warmers. I’m using Christina’s Rose pattern, but with the narrow serpentine braid cables from the Frode sweater from Viking Patterns for Knitting (this is the sweater which I had started last summer, but then realized that I didn’t have enough yarn from the same dye lot to continue.) Here’s from a few days ago:

Frode Wrist Warmers (WIP)

I will say that using DK instead of worsted makes a HUGE difference. Oh man, are those side cables much easier.

Anyway, since I DID end at the end of the pattern repeat, I think I’m just going to add eight more rows of 2×2 ribbing to match the bottom. That should just about do it. It looks a little funky anyway because I wasn’t so careful about trying to match up the cables with the ribbing from the beginning (it does look good in that picture though.)

In other news, new plugin! Threaded comments! I had previously tried using it but it didn’t work, which I’m guessing was as a result of my old theme or the version of WordPress I was using. This time, it’s working pretty well. If you use it, you have to fix the Engrish in the e-mail template under settings, but that’s about it. It looks like there’s gravatar support as well, but I haven’t tried that yet (I could be wrong.)
